Reiki – What is it and how can I benefit from it?
The first healing modality that I learned and was attuned to back in 1999 was Reiki. Reiki was and continues to be my passion. It is the modality that I will always recommend to any person wanting to experience healing of any type for the first time. Why? Because this simple yet powerful hands-on healing balances all parts of your body – physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually – and leaves you with a feeling of being centred and ‘in your body’, possibly for the first time. It is also when you discover what I consider to be a sense of euphoria or ‘bliss’.
What then is Reiki?
The word Reiki is made up of two Japanese words – Rei which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki which is “life force energy”. So Reiki is actually “spiritually guided life force energy.” Mikao Usui was the founder of this spiritual practice of complementary healing and his teachings and the subsequent attunement to Reiki has been passed down a lineage from the early 1920’s in order to maintain its integrity.
A Reiki treatment consists of laying my hands on your body in a prescribed pattern and allowing the ‘energy of life’ to flow through my hands in order to rebalance your body. Reiki will be also flow while my hands are off your body. What you will notice throughout your Reiki session is a sense of deep relaxation and peace. Often, it can be when you will experience your first spiritual insights.
Typically a session with me will begin with you chatting to me about what is affecting you at this moment in your life; any stresses you may be experiencing and how that might be playing out with any discomfort or pain in your body. We may discuss generally what underlying issues or thoughts may be causing any stress you are experiencing. Of course, you don’t need to have an issue to come and experience Reiki. It is a beautiful pampering treatment in itself. However, if you do have any concerns, this is a wonderful way to address them.
After our chat, you will then be invited to lie down on my comfortable healing table, be covered with a warm and soft blanket and I will check your chakras with my pendulum. Here is where your energetic body will indicate to me what areas of your body may be experiencing imbalance. Each of the 7 chakras that I check co-relates to the organs in each of the corresponding parts of the body and during your Reiki session, these chakras are balanced and simultaneously, so too are the corresponding organs.
It has actually been scientifically proven that Reiki is effective for relaxation, pain management, reduced anxiety, reduced depression, and enhanced well-being. My experience is that Reiki does all that and more. Everyone who has experienced Reiki feels a deeper connection with themselves and they have also found it to be a wonderful coping tool. For many of my clients, Reiki has been the first step to opening their third eye and increasing their intuition and psychic abilities.
The healing does not end while you are on the table. You will continue to experience and enjoy the benefits of your Reiki treatment for several days afterwards. This is because whatever the healing has treated during your session is continuing to be cleared and integrated thereafter.
